A leaky gut could mean you’re flushing expensive vitamins down the drain

Without realising it, many people are wasting millions of dollars annually on vitamins and supplements due to a simple misunderstanding about how they work.

Australians are spending large sums of money on vitamins, minerals and dietary supplements however, almost all are getting flushed down the drain.

In order to get the most out of any vitamin or supplement, you need to have a healthy gut to start with, so they are properly and effectively absorbed.

Supplements and your gut.
If you don’t have a healthy gut microbiome, so anything they put into their body that they think will be beneficial, is actually being flushed down the toilet.

That’s right, an unhealthy gut or leaky gut syndrome means that you don’t absorb the investment you’re making in health products!

Coming into Christmas and especially the New Year, the sale of vitamins and supplements peaks, I’m sure you’ve set a few health and wellbeing resolutions yourself!

It would be wise to address your gut microbiome before introducing more vitamins into your regime. Because let’s be honest, if you make an investment in your overall health, you want to see and feel the difference.

As your gut has an impact on aspects of health that don’t appear to have anything to do with digestion, it’s important to improve your gut health, particularly during the festive season.

Symptoms of leaky gut.
Some common symptoms of an unhealthy gut include nausea, diarrhoea, bloating, flatulence, constipation and abdominal pain. But there are also more uncommon symptoms such as eczema, weight gain, fatigue and joint pain that may present themselves.

Focus on a healthy lifestyle.
The best way to stay healthy this summer, is to invest in your gut health before you introduce vitamins or supplements.

There are also many benefits to good gut health including a stronger immune system, maintaining a healthy weight, boosting vitality and energy, improved thinking, strengthened bones and hair, enhanced physical appearance and more.

You can achieve better gut health by eating plenty of fruits and vegetables that carry good bacteria and help to digest your food and provide plenty of soluble fibre.

Lifestyle also has an impact on gut health so look at exercising regularly, getting enough sleep and using antibiotics only when necessary.

You can also experiment and incorporate fermented foods like kimchi, sauerkraut, kefir, miso, yogurt and tempeh into your diet, and since they are popular and trending, they won’t be hard to find.

Complement your diet with an effective supplement containing prebiotics, probiotics and postbiotics, which will promote a healthy digestive system and enhance good bacteria in the gut.
